Soft Starts: Beginning the Year Gently
It’s natural to get caught up in the new year, new me energy and feel pressure to dive headfirst into all your 2026 goals. If you’re feeling motivated and ready to make changes, I’m cheering you on and will happily support you all year long.
But if the thought of big, sweeping changes feels overwhelming, or if you’re actually content where you are and feel a little guilty about that, let me gently say this: it’s okay.
We are all in different chapters of our lives. Some years, we have the time, energy, and resources to make big shifts. Other years, our wisest choice is to conserve energy and focus on simply getting through the day with care and intention.
No matter where you are right now, take a deep breath and remind yourself:
you are exactly where you need to be.
Today, take a few quiet minutes to pray or journal about how you feel stepping into this new year. No planning. No fixing. Just noticing. There’s no need to rush.
Begin gently.
Two Engagement Ideas
Fight “Adultitis” with Laughter
One of my longtime favorites is Escape Adulthood, a site I’ve followed for over eight years. Their playful mission to fight “adultitis” is a great reminder that we don’t have to take ourselves so seriously all the time. Their ideas are a fun invitation to laugh, be silly, and reconnect with joy.
(I’m still waiting for a few friends to take me up on my Barbarian Spaghetti Dinner Party idea!)
National Popcorn Day – January 19
Plan a cozy movie night with friends or family and create a popcorn bar with fun toppings and seasonings. Simple, inexpensive, and guaranteed joy.
Two Things I’m Loving
My Walking Pad
I walked over 3,000 miles at my desk in 2025, and this little habit made a huge difference. It helped me stay active on days when strength training didn’t happen and kept me more engaged and focused throughout the workday.
Colorful Landscape Notepads
I love color, so these immediately caught my eye. They come in a five-pack with fun shades, and the landscape layout makes them perfect for daily lists and notes without feeling cluttered.
