Today Was Beautiful Because...

Begin Right Where You Are

Pause

Before you read any further, take one slow, deep breath.

Relax your shoulders.

Unclench your jaw.

Notice the chair beneath you, your feet on the floor, and the breath God has graciously given you.

You don't have to hurry through this moment.

You're already exactly where today's journey begins.

Have you ever noticed how often we live somewhere other than where we actually are?

Our minds replay yesterday or race ahead to tomorrow, while today quietly waits for us.

I've learned that some of life's sweetest moments rarely announce themselves. They arrive in ordinary ways.

A sunrise on the drive to work.

Coffee with a friend.

A handwritten note.

The laughter of someone you love.

A dog resting beside you.

The quiet realization that God has been with you all along.

That's why this month's challenge is called Rooted in the Present.

We're not trying to squeeze more into our days. We're learning to notice more of the life we've already been given.

Noticing God's faithfulness.

Noticing beauty.

Noticing people.

Noticing the quiet gifts that often go unseen.

My hope is that by the end of this month you'll discover something I've been learning myself: slowing down doesn't mean falling behind. Sometimes it helps us see what matters most.

This Week's Invitation

Choose one ordinary moment today and experience it without multitasking.

It might be your morning coffee, a walk outside, dinner with your family, folding laundry, or the drive home.

For just five minutes, put your phone away and simply be present.

Tonight, finish this sentence:

Today was beautiful because...

Just one sentence.

Simply notice.

Growing Good

Growth often happens in ordinary moments. One of my favorite things about community events is that they don't have to be elaborate to create connection.

1. August 9 is Book Lover's Day!

Celebrate by sharing the joy of reading. Gift a favorite book, host a book swap, read aloud with a child, or spend a few quiet minutes with a book that encourages your heart.

2. August is Family Fun Month

Before summer slips away, make one memory together. Visit the park you've been meaning to explore, try a new restaurant, pull a family adventure from a hat, or enjoy an evening with no agenda except being together.

Rachel Recommends

  1. We made hot honey chicken skewers this weekend, and they were a huge hit! We served them with fresh peach salsa, roasted potatoes, and broccoli. Even Bill gave them his stamp of approval.

  2. I've also discovered reusable drink sleeves for iced coffee. They keep cups from sweating all over everything, they're washable, and they're much cuter than wrapping your drink in a paper towel. This one is my favorite- no surprise there!

A Prayer to Carry With You

Father,

Thank You for meeting me in this ordinary day. Help me slow down enough to recognize Your presence in the moments I often rush past. Open my eyes to the beauty You've already placed around me, and teach me to live faithfully, gratefully, and fully present today.

Amen.

Join Me This Month

This August, I'm spending five intentional minutes each day practicing presence, noticing God's goodness, and recording one beautiful moment from each day.

I'd love for you to join me.

Every Tuesday I'll send a simple encouragement, a practical challenge, and a reminder to keep your heart rooted in the present.

The present moment is where God is meeting you today.

Don't rush past it.
